Kharkiv

Unlike the industrial and agricultural cities around Ukraine, Kharkiv City is more involved in the theoretical aspect of the country. Located in the Sloboda Ukraine region, it is a university town where the brightest of Ukraine go to study and where nuclear technology is developed among other sciences.

It was founded in 1654 as the birthplace of the Soviet government although archeology suggests that the place was inhabited by a population of people in the 2nd millennium BC.

In the late 1910’s Kharkiv was established as the capital of the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic although the capital was moved to Kiev later on. However, during that period, Kharkiv underwent a massive expansion in urban development.

Kharkiv also saw another revolution in history in the form of a Nazi occupation in World War II. Several battles between the Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union took place for the control of the city, thus destroying a lot of infrastructure. Nevertheless, Kharkiv was able to recover its buildings, factories, and other important factors into what would one day become the prosperous city of today.

The city not only attracts visitors for historic reasons, but also for the culture in music, art, and sport is abundant. The scenery and architecture is also a sight to see when in Kharkiv. It is home to active nightlife for young people as well.

Travel to Kharkiv is available to many with its international airport delivering flights from cross continental sites to flights within Europe. The city also has good train links bring passengers into the Kharkiv Railway Station (Picture: L-plate big cheese). The Public transportation within the city is easily accessible to everyone as well.
