Ukraine
The country that is named “borderland” was once part of the Soviet Union but more known as Ukraine. It is located to the southwest of Russia, with the Black Sea below it to the south. European countries of Poland, Belarus, Moldova, and Odessa surround it as well.
Kiev the capital city of Ukraine is the most flocked to by visitors for its historical value by air. Airlines that offer flights to Ukraine include Swiss, Aeroflot, and Air France with prices that are about $900 and up. Domestic travel options can range depending on the location. Ferry, bus, train, and cabs are available within the country and to the surrounding countries. Again, rates and travel time vary.
Ukrainian is the official language but most of the country still speaks the native tongue of Russian. Several dialects are also spoken but they are typically derived from the influence of Russian.
It boasts fantastic architecture in the form of grand castles, a picturesque countryside particularly in Crimea, and a bustling city life especially in Kiev.
Travellers interested in the culture and history of Ukraine will not be disappointed to see it while enjoying the willingness of the country to welcome tourists. With the now post-Orange democracy, Ukraine will continue to grow and hopefully become a choice place for tourism. Its beautiful scenery, people, interesting history, and hope that it will one day be part of the European Union will surely entice tourists to visit.
