Wroclaw to lose out on Euro 2012?
By Euro 2012 InfoThe western city of Wroclaw might fail to complete a stadium designed for the UEFA Euro 2012 Championships on time because of an invalid contract.
The Public Procurement Office has found that the contract which Wroclaw authorities signed with a German contractor, Max Bogl, might violate the law and thus be invalid.
“We’ve expected to receive comments from the Public Procurement Office since the Polish law on public procurement is among the toughest in Europe. But I hope that we will manage to convince the office that we’ve done everything in accordance with the law,” says Marcin Garcarz, spokesman for the Mayor of Wroclaw.
The office has not ordered Wroclaw authorities to terminate the contract yet because they have the right to appeal. If, however, the National Board of Appeal decides that the agreement violates Polish laws on public procurement, Wroclaw will have to select a new contractor, which will considerably delay the construction of the stadium and, as a result, the city may be deprived of the right to host Euro 2012 matches.
